All, but fellow CAers especially, please be aware: The CA legislature has passed Newsom's plan, and we will be moving forward with a special election on November 4th.

I really think this is not the way. The right thing would be bi-partisan agreement at the federal level to block all redistricting until the next census. If we had a real Supreme Court the way would be to outlaw gerrymandering. This is white supremacy's ugly last gasp before demographic change.
Newsom is live RIGHT NOW explaining the rationale for why CA is doing this:
Never forget who he really is bsky.app/profile/sjon...
And here's the press conference from earlier in the day after Newsom signed the legislature's bills: (reposting in reverse order to share Newsom's live link)
Maybe I can get out of Issa’s district after all 🙏🏻
If folks don't realize we well and truly through the looking glass now.
YAY!! WOOT HOOT!!! Let's go Special Election 11/04/25!!! California... VOTE YES ON REDISTRICTING!!!!!
As long as it doesn't affect your district, of course. Have you looked at the maps closely? Since citizens have to be put into districts that make no sense just to fight... disenfranchising other citizens... And if Republicans get in power, ignoring fair rules is now a legit move. Great idea.
Holy shit, that was fast
Yup. They needed to do it by Friday. It was the SoS's deadline to get on the November ballot.
Ready to vote to gerrymander the fuck out of my state.
