Now I'm not saying you're incorrect - maybe it is more effective for some reason. It just seems odd that it would be.

Why would it be odd? The trick is not just to feed some triggers to the body and hoping that the defence system will activate somehow. It's really more like 'hacking' the cell system and tell it exactly what to do. Plenty more control levers, targeted, efficient.

That's exactly what the covid mRNA vaccines does. It only causes target cells to create an analog of a fragment of the real viruses spike protein. Nothing else.

That's the point. There is no ballast, no other random cell bits. It creates only the relevant bit, so the antibodies created are entirely focused on the correct target.

The spike protein is not the only relevent bit with Covid. Spike (S), Nucleocapsid (N), NSPs Accessory Proteins are all targeted in natural infection (attenuated) but only Spike (S) with mRNA Covid vaccines

Nucleocapsid (N) and non-structural proteins are heavily targeted by T-cells after natural infection with Covid. Having multiple sites targetted is like having a door with multiple locks, if 1 lock is disabled (S mutates) the other locks may still be functional enough to confer protection.

You may also want to consider US deaths (mRNA) vs Phillipines (Primarily attenuated). USA: 1,100,000. Phillipines: 68,000. The USA had 4 x population but 20 times more deaths.
