Because some of them they listen to you in, and others they use you as an object of hate. It's kind of the same way religious "outreach" isn't about converting anyone (because no one listens to them that way) but about driving the faithful deeper together *because* no one listens to them.

Also, talking in person is mostly a waste of time, to be very clear, but it at least has a tiny chance of working.
