If you're jonesing for books in the vein of ASoIaF, try Tad Williams' Osten Ard novels, particularly the trilogy Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn. They're so good that George R.R. Martin shamelessly stole several plot points and a couple characters from them.

Those books are not getting released. 6th one is in the works for over a decade, and he doesn't know how to finish them.
