Residents of DC have no congressional representation and their home rule arrangements are vulnerable to federal takeover, both of which statehood would rectify. There is no such principle at stake in TX. I'd be open to other arrangements that addressed those issues, but I am not a Dem politician.

The only reason DC even exists is to be a Federal territory free from state control. Making DC a state totally obliterates the very reason for its existence. It's constitutionally dubious, and its a transparent power grab bc nobody wants to reabsorb it into Maryland bc they wouldn't gain 2 Senators.

You're arguing the merits, which wasn't what I was addressing. You said it was the same as the TX gerrymander, just a naked power grab. I articulated the principle that, for me, differentiates it from TX. I stand by that.

There is no difference. There is no principle. There's the principle of we want 2 Senators for doing nothing. If that wasn't the aim, they would be pursuing other options. They won't, because not only is there no advantage + reabsorbing most of DC denudes the argument they should have 3 EC votes.

We are in the middle of a coup. There is no stopping Dumpt. Texas, D.C. & any state like GA where there is competition they will take over.
