That's my experience when I was in USA on "Work & Travel" program from Eastern Europe. You have a low low payment job and don't have a car (because why would you for 3 month?), so you walk by foot anywhere you need

Yeah, there lots of people that need to get around without a car, but the street design nevertheless is all to prioritize car traffic. It makes it unpleasant and dangerous to walk in much of the country.
