Note that when the National Guard was deployed in Berkeley in the late 60's, and they approached the crowd with fixed bayonets, there was a line of MP's behind the Guard ready to arrest any Guardsman who failed to follow illegal orders.

There were a lot of changes to the National Guard after that era.
Rather be arrested than kill a neighbor.
Yes.
This is why Tiananmen Square failed. It was succeeding because people didn’t want kill their neighbors so the CCP sent in people for many 100s of km away who had no connection to Beijing and as such has no problem driving over people with tanks.
That would be harder to do in the U.S. these days. We’re a much more connected place than China was in 1989.
And that’s a fair comment except the right has been demonizing California so long entire we have been othered but a large section of America.
When I moved to my current state people tried to run me off the road. I’d get out of my car and people would come up to me and say that they hate California and they hate me too. Just complete bitter rancor with these people. **It all changed when I got different license plates.**
So I’m not 100% people from Utah or Idaho or Nebraska or Arkansas or Oklahoma or Iowa wouldn’t sign up to murder and brutalize Californians. I really don’t. It’s a culture war with them.
Same here when I had CA plates. People would yell "communist" as I drove by
They have no idea what that means.
I am so sorry to hear that you and others experienced those things. That’s awful. I understand your point. Some people are horrible. Part of the problem, too, is that charged situations like this can escalate fast, and it only takes one mistake or ill-intention to spark a terrible outcome.
I have lived next to these Marine bases in socal my entire life. Many of them stay. They have their families here. They go down to TJ and many of their friends are immigrants if they are not themselves. We had an AMTRAC sink in an accident at Camp P and 3 of 8 were from socal. All Hispanic too.
I’m from San Diego. I know. But also being Hispanic doesn’t me fuck all. If you think Hispanic is a monolithic group you are highly over simplifying things. Hispanic people are some of the most racist people against other Hispanics especially migrants.
The biggest demographic gain by trump was with Hispanic men. The same group he called rapists and murderers. The same group he brutalized for four years. They all voted for him because they think that the rabid dog won’t turn on them.
Not all but yes, I know many too that voted for him too. That being said, asking them to do the brutalization is different specially when it is in your community. I guess the better question at this point is what is the line of them seeing him turn on them?
Again, “Latino” is not a monolithic community. Mexican, El Salvadorean, Guatemalan, Cuban, Nicaraguan don’t automatically get along because they are all Hispanic. I mean I bet you think Koreans and the Japanese are best friends because they’re both Asian. You are over simplifying everything.
Of course. I don't think any community is monolithic. Humans will always find ways to separate and hate each other. It wasn't just Caucasians capturing Black Africans and selling them into slavery. Irish were some of the first victims of the British Empire.
We’re also pretty heavily armed.
What a system. And who followed the MPs?????????????
Ironically, this was a golden opportunity for some "Oath Keepers," if the Oathkeepers didn't turn out to be a bunch of white-supremacist brownshirts.
