The network said the show was losing money. Are you a socialist?

Are you sure they said that? I only said they canceled the show for "financial reasons", a wonderfully vague term, and I assumed the financial issue they referred to was the merger with Skydance.

Einstein was a socialist. You are the opposite of him.

I’m not sure you know how Hollywood accounting works, but technically films like Batman, Jurassic Park, The Godfatger etc all “lost money” despite quintupling their budget. If you believe Colbert lost his job for that reason, there are many folks lining up with a bridge to sell you.

Then Mike, explain to me why Trump publically took credit for getting him fired, and went on and threatened two other Late Night comedians with the same retribution? Explain it to me like I dopn't know how Hollywood acounting works, like a profesional in the buisness like yourself does. Please!

I think you meant to address that to the dude above Mike's comment (the one who called us "socialist" like it's a bad thing). Mike's saying that Hollywood is justifying the firing using fake numbers and that yes, it's all rigged to kiss the ring.

Also, what's with "socialism" being a biggest insult? I wish they were this hard on terms like "fascism" or "authoritarianism."

No worries and no offense taken. My answer would have been twofold: He takes credit for everything and 2) he was fired so they could ramrod the merger through and used the “it was losing money” as an excuse. Cheers.

Dude's getting paid almost $2m per episode with Netflix. Maybe the late night format is the problem? Letting a talent like him walk into free agency is a mistake because the market now dictates that he's going to make more money and do way less work

The losses were accounting gimmicks made by loading his show with unrelated personnel costs. They had to come up with something that sounded reasonable. There was no way that CBS would have kept his show on air with massive losses

Still remains an unproven excuse to those who have looked into it.
