Disney’s recommendation system is so hilariously bad. ‘Hey, you’ve just finished watching Andor, do you want to watch 3 more things specifically about Andor?’

These would have been exactly the right recommendations for us. We always intended to watch Rogue One again straight after Season 2. And then we watched the Season 2 documentary after that. I wonder if Disney+ recommended these to you because many others did this too?

That’s the point though, you already knew you were going to watch it so it didn’t need recommending. Recommendations algorithms are meant to help you discover new things, not present things you know you wanted to watch in the first place.

I am getting some ‘But I knew wanted to watch Rogue One after Andor so that’s actually a great recommendation!’ If you knew you were going to watch it, it didn’t need recommending. Good recommendation engine = discovery, not search shortcuts.

An entire library of Disney content, and its top recommendations for me are 4 things from the same universe, 3 about the same character and 2 literally about the TV show *I just finished*, including a recap of the 1st season.

I mean rogue one is a good rec, lots of people watched it again given the framing, the other two are just daft I gave Tales a go, was fun

But those people who watched it again likely knew they were going to watch it again, it didn’t need recommendation. Recommendation is meant to introduce discovery and variety, not just be a shortcut to searching for things I know I want to find.

I was looking for the movie Equus on Amazon prime. It’s not on there, but suggested “Champion the Wonder Horse” would be a suitable alternative. (On the upside, it does understand Latin).

If it had come up with any Roy Rogers flms instead, it could have had a Trigger warning..

I was convinced once that Channel 4's one was doing this deliberately to mess with folks heads.
