The State of Israel had already been occupying East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza for approximately 20 years prior to the founding of Hamas in 1987. In that time, over 250,000 Israeli Jewish settlers were embedded in the occupied territories. Why would it be any different if Hamas dissolved?

A very good point. It can’t end with merely stopping the war, returning hostages, and disarming Hamas. There has to be justice and accountability as well. At minimum, dismantling of illegal settlements, full withdrawal from EJ, WB, and Gaza, a full right of return for Palestinians, and reparations.

Well, it would be a hell of a lot better for the average Palestinian if Hamas dissolved

How? Because if the Zionist government doesn’t dissolve alongside it then this is meaningless

The existence of Hamas is in direct correlation to the existence of a foreign martial law.

There is absolutely zero reason to believe that without even considering the actions Israel took before October 7.

Hamas on Monday: *dissolves* Israel on Tuesday: "we will not stop until there are only 'uninvolved civilians' left!"

Hamas does not hold the seat of "government" in Ramallah and yet the E1 settlement bloc was just approved by the State of Israel with the expressed intention of permanently dividing East Jerusalem from the rest of the occupied West Bank and splitting it in two. What will be different if Hamas goes?

Hamas certainly did not exist between 1949 and 1951, so why did the State of Israel pass legislation including the Property Absentee Law which allowed for the State to expropriate and thieve thousands of hectares of land and thousands of homes from those expelled in 1948?

Hamas was not extant in 1956, so why did Israel bulldoze hundreds of homes and kill hundreds in Gaza when it went to war against Egypt and briefly occupied the Stirp for the first time ever? Why did it pass the annexation law for East Jerusalem in 1980, a whole seven years before Hamas' founding?

Could it be that there existed a preceding system of Jewish supremacism as a political program, and could it be that this program, coupled with martial rule and existentially systematic discrimination, engendered resentment among the discriminated?

To ascribe quintessentially human psychology and motivations to Palestinians would require these people to accept that Palestinians are human.

In case anyone needs a refresher (or just an overview that can get lost in following the news of this or that settlement over the years), NPR's Throughline covers the above points (and many others) in this podcast here: www.npr.org/2024/10/31/1...

I think this gets at how much Gaza really is viewed as a sideshow by many principal actors (and there's a good case they're right)

Also, like, Israel has repeatedly claimed that all Hamas battalions have been dismantled, all their leadership killed, their access to new weapons cut off, and their command and control completely destroyed. By the IDFs own claims, Hamas *is* militarily defeated and disarmed.

Israel's borders need to go back to the international recognized 1967 borders or at least to the borders in the deal Clinton negotiated.
