I am not going to go check wookieepedia but I have yet to hear of a Disney-approved explanation. I think the plan is to just never mention it again and never do it again and hope for the best.

That’s probably the best approach, but if I were going to be a Grade A smartarse I would accuse Disney of ripping off the ending to Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, but less wordy.
