Funny how they burn the vast majority of coal burned on the planet at the same time.

And are still planning to build even more coal plants. Add in every other kind of pollution / enviromental destruction, not just within China but overseas via illegal fishing fleets, and these headlines ring rather hollow.
But unlike in Western countries, coal burning in China is already going down. Thanks to the turbo-development of renewables. By 2030 China will have as many renewables as the rest of the world together!
They have a very large population. Their per capita use of coal is about the same as Germany and Poland, and the US is also up there in per capita consumption. It is very good that China is working on it and making progress.
I think percentage of grid wired power that is coal or this or that source is a more interesting number. Especially since China has a still lopsided energy profile across relatively rich, middle class and peasants.
I don't think so. I see China generates 60% of its energy with coal where the US generates 16% from coal.
Interesting. I was looking at the per capita numbers. Maybe that’s including more than just electricity generation? In any case, it’s good they are making progress.
Progress is good. And i like that China, along with India, build out more modern fail safe nuclear plant designs that it is legally challenging to get licensed in the US and most Western countries.
