I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say most white males in this country, especially in rural areas, never experience pushback. So they never expect it and are instantly affronted when someone doesn’t either agree with or silently accept their argument.
Some of this is patriarchy, some of it is Midwestern “politeness”, a lot of it is the echo chamber most of them live in.
