So who wants to tell them that the entire foundation for the Silent Hill franchise is the lingering psychic trauma of an abused child forced to become a cult's gestation pod?

You can always tell a fake fan by how loud they cry "woke"
Something that I think applies to basically every non-white supremacist creation, really. Star Wars? Pokemon? Final Fantasy? Magic: The Gathering? Heavy Metal? Literal Subaru automobiles? Doesn't matter the subject; crying 'woke' proves you never paid attention in the first place.
Same shit happened with Doctor who last few seasons too
Silent Hill 3 Heather kills a God, not just feminism but japanese feminism (women fight not only for their rights but also to kill (a) God(s))
Heather gets an abortion onscreen after her abusive ex-family tries to force her to keep the evil god-fetus she doesn’t want to carry to term. She takes magic Plan B and everything.
Heather >>>> James
Ok class next session we will discuss Silent Hill 2 and all of James Sunderlands issues regarding women
Those ppl in the screen "huhuhh relateable James, sick wives won't shut up amirite"
The corridor walk to the final boss in Silent Hill 2, when you listen to Mary's emotional breakdown is one of the few things that reliably brings me to tears in any video game. She was only 25. She was choked with guilt for getting sick. The trauma on display in that game.
Those people are assholes and morons, and I wonder what sort of situation they'd have to go through to develop the type of empathy for people in shitty circumstances that game uses as it's main horror.
A lot of these losers hardly ever play the games they rage about, it's all about the performative outrage for them, once SHF comes out, they'll just argue about it for a few weeks before moving on to their next target. Pretty much definition of insanity.
Even Eddy whose shitty circumstance is mostly his own damn fault, was failed by the adults in his life who never pushed him to really grow beyond being a man-child. That game is a masterclass in horror as empathy.
And yet still expected too much of the average male gamer in that regard. I think Born From A Wish was in particular an attempt to course correct on that, a response to men interpreting Maria as some kind of manipulative villain.
Ok I didnt know about Born From a Wish and looked it up. Its just weird. Maria is manifested due to James desires. It's why in a certain ending she starts coughing. Because he didnt resolve his issues.
Yeah, Downpour plays into this with one of its concepts "Full Circle" Silent Hill is a tharapist, and if you don't get the lesson it's trying to teach you progress past the trauma it's exposing you to, you come back and try again And again And again And again.
Silent Hill is not a therapist, not any more than a spider is an ecologist. It's an amoral entity that consumes guilt by mirroring one's own psychological hangups at them, and you either come to terms with your trauma or you die and become part of the town. Lisa from SH1 is the prime example.
People dont get that silent hill, at least in 2, manifests your personal issues. Maria wasn't a villain as she only exists due to James own problems.
Born from a Wish actually indicates it's likely that she existed as a real person first, and James's fucked up misogynist perception of Maria was imprinted into her. She's another victim of him, not an illusion.
I've never actually played Born From a Wish but I guess that checks out. Since she starts coughing like Mary in the one of the endings I always thought she was just an illusion brought to life by his desires. Oh Silent Hill 2... brings me back to literature class.
Are you suggesting that misogynist men see women as interchangeable and disposable and freely project their own issues onto the women they interact with? I am shocked!
I actually assumed from Born from a Wish that she was created by the town based on his perception, but that didn't make her any less of a victim of it
No! Everyone knows the whole series is about a bad circumcision!! /s
And here I thought it was about circumcision!
I can hear Luckybun storming off and slamming the door from here 🤣
I had repressed the memory of that stupid... stupid theory.
It's almost as if creatives in general lean further left, because to create means to expand your experience beyond your home town.
With that said, it's notable that those creatives who drift further right seem to stop creating along the way.
1 is about parenting girls, 2 is about men being married to women, 3 is about being a woman, all are about women having to deal with the influence of patriarchal society Like, there is a thematic through line and it's not subtle I could definitely scare something up about 4 if I had the juice
Silent Hill 3 is also about escaping an abusive cult and taking your goddamn life back.
Yeah that's what I said
4 is about a deranged man trying to reconnect with what he assumes is his mother, and has a distinct nasty sexist streak with how specially cruel he is to his female victims.
I honestly don't have the spoons to put together my thoughts about it at the moment but the core of what I'm seeing there is that after he's abandoned, Walter literally objectifies the role of Mother and uses her as an excuse to do what he wanted to do anyway There's something there, def
So basically about why we need feminism, then. I think.
Pretty much, yeah, lol.
Imo, if you read between the lines in Silent Hill 4, it's about choosing to improve yourself and defend not just women but all those who are less able to fend for themselves... You can only get the best ending if you listen, try, be patient, and care about Eileen's safety and happiness
For sure, you have to be the opposite of Walter - care for your environment, the people around you, and yourself.
Man, if Silent Hill 3 came out today these guys would shit themselves.
