Arrested is different than detained.

According to the article it was an actual arrest. CBP said the two people were arrested and taken to Bellingham Station near the Canadian border.

A group of almost 30 was detained briefly and of that group 2 were taken away.

Yeah. 1 of whom his lawyer says is on the legal pathway and following the rules. But during fire season taking away people who aren't criminals is still disturbing. Like arresting Doctors during a pandemic. Seems counter productive.

Detained, they get released same day, arrested, they might be deported or imprisoned.

People have been detained by this version of ICE for days or weeks, but normally you are correct.
