It’s just kinda how they work in the anime I think? They shrink down to fit on a belt and grow to be perfect throwing size. Without a discernible mechanism that causes it

they do that in the games too. in sword and shield’s raid dens and in scarlet and violet’s tera raids, when catching a pokemon i don’t think pokeballs were ever supposed to follow the laws of physics, in regards to size

I do believe that it’s only the Max Raid balls that grow. Because that’s what Dynamax Pokémon do. The Tera Raid Poké Balls, however, only get covered in crystal, but it zooms in once it’s completely covered. In the next shot it zooms back out to the Pokémon and the ball is normal size

the catching animation for tera raids is a bit interesting because it appears to grow in the frame right before the crystal “explodes” to reveal the pokeball again i can’t definitely say whether it’s the crystal itself growing because of this. i hope you can understand my point of view on this

Oh yeah don’t worry, Nothing ever mentions the ball getting crystallized in text so we don’t know what exactly happens with that one. I was just going off of how I saw it. Eyes work different!
