You don't save up a couple days to use between christmas and new year? That can give you about 9 days off right there.

I have that time off now, because of my seniority, but I've worked more than my share of holidays. My company has a habit of saying we'll be shut down for that time, but then 2 weeks before the holiday, they'll change their minds.

The average American worker does not get more than either Christmas or New Year’s Day off during that time of year, and many get neither. Holidays are unpaid for many workers as well. Until I joined a union, I had never had a paid day off.

For the last 20 years, i've been working at home gigging with online joints and there are no days off. But when I had office jobs, yeah, there were vacation days and holidays off.
