I'm still waiting to see the first bird of my day. The strong winds and rain here in North Lancashire are keeping the birds hidden in the bushes. Even the woodpigeons have yet to make an appearance! #FirstBirdOfMyDay

A standing herring gull, nearly in strict profile, on a roof ridge adjacent to a brick chimney stack. Gazing longer, I was able to discern both the gull's legs before it took off. That was only after an early bolus hunter swift had soared over the roof! 👏😃

I have a foot in both countries having been born and schooled in the UK but living most of my life here. It’s always an interesting transition from one to the other but the birds here feel like old friends now.
