First bird of my day: woke up to the sound of swifts at dawn. Very rare to be coaxed awake by screaming swifts in England- the best alarm clock ever. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

house sparrow fledgling
wonderful..here an amazing dawn of many vibrant colours with the roosting Crows rising first, making the usual cacophonous din for them..still sizzling here..#FirstBirdoftheDay
I've managed to reach Bangkok, via Dubai (so far) & it's the end of July 1st here. I've not seen a single bird all day!
Well, we expect an exceptional one tomorrow! 😉
Herring gull, in flight way off, lackadaisical wingbeats heading NW towards the estuary. Then I was just able to make out Deeside's swifts, where the gull passed, recognising their swoops and glides.
#FirstBirdOfMyDay: the Sparrow gang exploring the contents of our gutters!!
A pair of Collared Doves perched on a TV aerial. Cloudy and dry here.
#FirstBirdOfMyDay: Brown thrasher, making the rounds under the feeders.
We are so lucky to have this sound to wake us every day. All 3 nest boxes have been successfully used - swiflets in each!
The image with the two swifts in flight is really interesting: capturing, synoptically, a moment of change of the aerodynamic shape of the wings and tail to reduce speed for entry to the cavity compared to the shape as streamlined.
Wonderful. A pair pass over here every afternoon. Herring Gulls screeching from the rooftops my wake up call.
Dunnock exploring the garden, Jackdaws on the field.
Today a great tit took the favoured place at the front peanuts very early in an overcast morn. Meanwhile, something had vandalised the peanut holder near the wisteria, causing the bottom to give way and peanuts to empty into a plant pot below.
Swifts busy again last night, but not a morning sound here in Leeds😒 The male blackbird has come from a good splash about before the heat sets in, now shaking down and preening on the branch across the garden. #FirstBirdofMyDay
Today it was the Wood Pigeons at silly o'clock. Love them but, jeez pack it in! 'I AM A PIGEON' yeah we know mate, we know 😂 Anyway loads of Swifts here, maybe 20 altogether. Glorious to behold, it seems to be a good year for them in our area.
Mine was Tom, ‘my’ resident male blackbird making a right din with alarm calls. Fearing a magpie or jackdaw had found his nest I went out to investigate. A rival male had dared to alight on the fence. He flew off and Tom piped down. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
A Wren singing in the trees on a cooler morning than of late. #Firstbirdofmyday
The sparrow mob are chattering away making bright old racket. I think the gist of the discourse is; “phew what a scorcher!”. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
Here was woken up by Mr Blackbird having a good sing-song, but am having a lie-in so haven’t spied anyone yet. Lots of other singing, though! Blackcaps, Goldfinch, a Robin, Great Reed Warblers, Swallows … it’s all go here! #FirstBirdOfMyDay
Dawn bypassed me today but I did spy 21 soggy cockatoos and 1 raven on the lookout tree when I eventually got out from under the doona. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
One flight away from Oz, now!
Where are you landing?
Brisbane
‘Doona’. Reminds me of visits with my family in Perth. 😍
I had to Google it. I think I will stash that word away until winter here, and make some people look at me funny when I use it. 😄
I had to look it up too.
The doona/duvet face-off 😁
I see some mega storm coming in round the NSW area. Are you going to be affected?
Hopefully not. I’m east of Melbourne , just non stop steady rain here atm.
I saw that it was causing havoc! Seems like more and more people are getting crazy weather. I wonder why that could be???
Hmmm! I wonder.
