House martins, twittering away in the grey sky. Keeping us company for the next 6 weeks or so (I hope) now that most of the swifts have left.
First bird of my day: a woodpigeon, squeezing through a gap in a conifer hedge and launching into the air. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
My skies are empty, the swifts have left, abruptly, no stragglers this year and I am standing bereft, just a collared dove & a magpie to lift the morning. #FirstBirdIfMyDay
A similar FBOMD observation to yesterday as a herring gull passed languidly down the road, a direction of flight at 90° to the morning gull popular transit here for much of the year.
The road less traveled for this gull 😄
That's clever! 😆
#FirstBirdOfMyDay was a Blue Tit. It’s drizzling & the scruffy BT family were very busy at the feeder. At least 6 of them popping in & out from the surrounding greenery.
Great Tits and Robin in the garden. Warm and dry here at present.
In the middle of my soggy lawn, a young wood pigeon stands completely still, looking drenched and disheveled. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
My sky-watching efforts paid off this morning: An American crow, flight silhouetted against the rosy pinks of sunrise, was #FirstBirdOfMyDay.
Beautiful. 😍 Well spotted.
A collared dove enjoying overflow below recently filled feeders near the hawthorn hedge, with bluetits and great tits flitting back n forth. Sadly, no much needed rain here for about a week. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
A glorious sunny morning up North. A roosting blackbird finally noticed me drinking tea on the step and shot out of the wild hedge and over the alley way #FirstBirdofMyDay
A blackbird giving a solo dawn chorus
A female Sardinian Warbler flitting around in an orange tree in my little veg garden.
Two pigeons playing chase in the back garden on a very fair morning. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
A little group of greenfinches, trilling and twittering through the garden. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
First bird of my day: a Crow calling as it flies across a cloudy and calm valley. #Firstbirdofmyday
A scruffy fledgling robin looking all grown up and important until a parent flies by, prompting an impressively demanding open-beak gape. Poxy teenagers!
#FirstBirdOfMyDay here - a Swift! when I open the blinds in the morning I always get a view of the sky, and there are still parents buzzing around bringing food for their young 😺
So, not all of them have left yet! 😃
It turns out that all the bangers and screamers have disappeared so it’s very quiet but in the evening there are still parents that gather together for a fly about - and most of ‘my’ residents are still here raising young, so I’ll have something to watch out for for a while yet!
A rather unusual 'small brown job': a Cetti's Warbler. I've seen/heard them occasionally elsewhere, but this is the first time I've seen one in the garden! #FirstBirdOfMyDay
Must have been amazing for such a special warbler to come to you rather than you having to go somewhere a bit special to hear and see them!
Definitely! I couldn't quite believe my ears when I heard it, then I stood gazing into the neighbour's tree, watching and waiting in hopeful disbelief (because I doubted I'd see it!), but there it was - the briefest of glimpses, but there all the same.
I wish that I could see all the birds I can hear this morning as I venture outside into a bright but cold day. Eventually after the washing is put out I see a small flock of noisy miners being feisty in the old crab apple tree. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
