First bird of my day: a woodpigeon (again!) walking down the garden path, investigating the fallen leaves under the oak tree. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
#Hummingbirds fighting over FOUR feeders. 😁
Inland commuting herring gulls under a grey sky.
Whichever direction I looked #FirstBirdOfMyDay was a Wood Pigeon flying across a universally grey sky. Heading hither & thither off to see what they could find.
A Collared Dove and a Jackdaw. Dull but dry here.
#FirstBirdOfMyDay: Northern cardinal in a cedar tree, fanned tail feathers backlit by the rising sun, making every barb visible
That must have been a stunning sight! Such beautiful birds that they don't actually need such a coincidental visual effect to make an appealing appearance but this cardinal would have looked super interesting in these circumstances. 😄
Yes, it was! One of the benefits of getting out at sunrise. 😄
Two wood pigeons having a stand off on the garden path. Neither would give way. Peace negotiations were eventually successful and they wandered off together. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
Spied through a chink in the curtains, a robin checking out its territory early morn. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
A male House Sparrow trying and failing to catch a juicy insect on the wall of my house.
Grey Feather on next door’s chimney while brushing my teeth on the step. Went for a digestive, though he had flown away. Pigeon might have some. 🙂 #FirstBirdOfMyDay
#FirstBirdOfMyDay : Two grey shrike-thrushes, recently returned south to nest nearby. Don't know if the same one(s) as came last spring, but they knew to sing for their supper (a little rolled oats on the back verandah table). (Not my) recording of their glorious song: youtu.be/eF4KDLUhGxU?...
You lucky thing. I've seen them occasionally in the local gardens but not in my own.
First bird of my day: a Blackbird eating ripe damsons from the tree in the hedgerow on an overcast, calm morning. #Firstbirdofmyday
Also saw a Tit this morning, but of the Blue variety, dashing between the trees. Is the Kestrel on the prowl? #FirstBirdOfMyDay
A laughing Kookaburra close by, heard but not seen then spotted 6 pied currawongs energetically foraging in the damp garden beds. One hopped from the camellia to the lillypilly flushing out the kookaburra who flew straight towards the window then up and over the roof. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
Lillypilly looks as lovely as it sounds! BTW do you write lillypillys or lillypillies?
Good question! I've never thought about but according to AI it's lillypillies. I have enough trouble trying to decide whether to use a dash or not 😀
LOL I thought I’d ask a local as when I went online it had it as one word, two words, hyphenated, with no plural form, with s, with -ies 😹😹😹
That makes me feel better!
Lillypillies it is, then 😹
