First bird of my day: a woodpigeon, quickly followed by a handsome pair of feral pigeons. I haven't had them in my garden for a while. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
Australian Raven, sitting on a concrete wall, by the motorway, with a Galah next to it!
Raven FBOMD, for 1st time. Fortuitously, the passing raven was cronking as he passed over the woods, thus drew my attention before I noticed wood pigeons on roofs. Wepre woods has also had passage swifts on 18 & 19th! Yay! 😄
I see ravens regularly where I live. At my previous house, they would actually come into my garden. An old map revealed that the area used to be a cluster of hamlets with names like Ravensmoor, Ravens Moss and Ravenscroft, so I guess they’ve been prolific in the area for generations 😊
😄 Fascinating. I ought to read more on the folklore of birds. The raven is a species that has clearly been potent in engendering imagination and has been much loved in these islands in the past.
A new FBOYD! Nice.
😁
#FirstBirdOfMyDay 4 exited blue tits doing acrobatics from tree to tree
#FirstBirdOfMyDay: a young, speckle-chested Robin with just a hint of the vibrant feathers to come.
Redshank alarm calls
Jackdaw on a grey morning
Up and out early this morning to check on a cygnet. It’s one of Bonnie and Clyde’s grandkids 😊and has become separated from its family. It’s not in distress, but we’re making sure it has plenty of food. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #ItTakesAVillage 🦢

#FirstBirdOfMyDay: A bird of prey, seen only for a moment, from behind, as it flew away from a tree I walked past. Juvenile Mississippi kite, I think (only about 75% certain).
Cooool!!!
It really is. The official field guides still say that central Arkansas does not have a breeding population, but that has changed in the years since I've lived here. They need to update their books. 😄 (The online sources are more accurate.)
I'm more than happy with your helpful Arkansas field guide notes - even if 'unofficial' - in these threads! 🙌
Ha ha, thanks!
Two dunnocks enjoying the damp grass after some unexpected overnight rain. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
A wood pigeon eagerly breakfasting on some broken fat balls left out below the freshly filled feeders. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
There was a small cloud at the airfield on Sunday, glorious noise. Four sparrows just flew onto the refilled feeders at Mum's house #FirstBirdofMyDay
#FirstBirdOfMyDay: well, birds: the sparrow gang. Much cheeping, whirring of wings and splashily energetic communal bathing.
A pigeon under the seed feeder, which flew away when I approached to top it up and refresh the water bath. 🙂 #FirstBirdOfMyDay
A juvenile red tailed hawk came through the cat door onto the porch. I got to pat his little head after I caught him and he flew off into the big pine tree, panicking the blue jays.
Good morning - Flycatchers still here & busy for #FirstBirdOfMyDay . Notable increase in number Mistle Thrushes.
First bird of my day: a small flock of Blue Tits fluttering about on the elder tree, searching for insects on an overcast, drizzly morning.
The beautiful Swifts again! And a flock of finches swooping onto seed heads in the long grass. Lots of activity this morning. Beautiful to see! #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
A most unusual #FirstBirdOfMyDay today - a pair of goldfinches dashing past the window 😺 Hear them more often than I see them, that’s for sure
Exciting! Gorgeous, colourful goldfinches 💛🖤❤️🤍 - my walk to the corner shop was 'bookended' by a raven and watching a charm of about a dozen strong calling and bouncing along overflying me. I love hearing, looking up and seeing goldfinch transits here!
Their trilling song is a joy in late spring and early summer when I’m sitting on my balcony😺
A solitary dunnock, moult-rumpled. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
The lone raven perched on the bare branches of the old maple in my garden. I watched it fly off to next door's sunny concrete verandah where it proceeded to peck haphazardly at the moving shadows. Think I shall rename him Don Quixote. #FirstBirdofMyDay #WhatsYours
Ah, but which?
Little is the default here.
Oz Raven here. Very distinctive calls.
