I rang mum yesterday to see how she was. She is a healthy 82 yr old She said she was pleased Lucy Connolly had been released because she hadnโt done anything wrong! She also said she was sick of small boats and wants her country back. I told her to stop being stupid. What would you do/say?
So frustrating for you but we love our Mums. With the relentless media blitz on immigration, migrants & small boats this thinking and all the rhetoric is being normalised. Would always advocate communicating the alternative position but it is wearing. Enjoy your bank holiday Monday though

I would just debate with her. Did it with some of the nonsense my dad came out with after reading the da1ly ma1l.
๐ When she starts losing she changes the subject! She is extremely racist. It makes angry. Her husband is equally ridiculous. Both very stubborn too.
It's probably an age thing. When my dad wouldn't listen to reason i would just tell him i was ending our conversation and take the boys home. A war of attrition.
I hope Iโd try and sit down and have a chat with her about why she felt like that. I have a feeling though that in reality Iโd do much the same as you!
Sit down and talk it through in detail in person. You can't do it for everyone, but it's worth the effort for your closest family.

Not to mention it being a propaganda channel peddling lies and fantasies.
It is a mind-set that is hard to change or reason with. A neighbour is the same. When he raises immigration or racist aspects etc I donโt respond, donโt discuss, change the subject, walk away. He will never change but my decision not to engage or concur leaves him with no platform to carry on.
