I also don't like System of a Down much because most of the lyrics are, well, nonsense on their face. Plus, all of the jarring bouncing between screaming and quiet talking. I mean, I like "BYOB", but also, the singing is terrible!

Even classical music has sudden tempo changes and decibel levels. Same when it comes to Opera lyrics being abstract. Plus many songs like question have great singing in them. What songs are you listening to then?
I prefer instrumental rock - progressive, building, long-form, with layers and complexity. But I also gravitate toward bands whose lead singer can, well, sing - and not just scream.
