Say what now? I am an elder millennial: I've never heard of this.

Men's buttons on right, holes on left. Women's buttons on left, holes on right. It's visible line in pictures. Look at the mens and look at her.
I think it was originally done for women who had help getting dressed. As a guy, it's easier to have buttons on the right, but if someone is standing in front of you helping, flipping the sides puts the buttons on the right for them.
The silly females are so sleight of intellect, they must be dressed by another.
I never looked into why. The theory of dressed by another fails me because both men and women of money had help. Valets? I can't imagine Gwendolyn the washer girl had someone to dress her.
Gwendolyn wouldn't have, but she also wouldn't have been setting the fashion of the day. Smithsonian Magazine says we really don't know; it could be servants, riding side-saddle or swords. www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/m...
This is perfect neurotypical-ness: "Hey, does anyone know why we have the machines calibrated to make women's shirts differently from men's??" [ everyone looks at each other blanky ] We just always done it like that ...
But ... why would anyone think to do that ... that's ... so weird. Neurotypicals are so strange.
