The blockchains themselves are safe. And people’s private keys are secure. But when you don’t own your crypto yourself and you keep it on an exchange like Coinbase or something like that, if the business gets hacked, the crypto could be stolen from the exchange. This is what happened in Iran 🇮🇷

Thankfully, smart Bitcoin and crypto users don’t keep their coins on exchanges once they buy it: they transfer it to a personal “wallet” secured by their private keys — that nobody has but them. This is like keeping your money in a locked safe that nobody knows the code nor the location of.
