Root vegetables to plant in fall! #TheOutpost 🌿🌱🌻👨‍🌾 Fall Roots - Edible Seattle share.google/gfNnmocSUOrh...

Along with the staples of beets and carrots, try turnips, radishes, rutabagas, and parsnips. Some short-season crops, such as turnips, can yield harvests well into winter by seeding them in succession over a period of weeks. Carrots and beets can be grown to maturity by fall and then left in nature’s refrigerator (our maritime climate’s cool winter soil) and pulled as desired.

Good morning, Snarky! 🔆 Speaking of turnips (store bought and not homegrown)… I cooked a couple of them for the first time yesterday. I like how they have a little bit of a bite to them. Also highly nutritious.

I have yet to try turnips. Not sure what to do with them. Like a radish?

A bit like a radish. I peeled them then microwaved them for 4-1/2 minutes then served them with a little salt and butter. Although I’m sure there’s tastier ways to prepare them than that.
