a good heuristic here is "who's sponsoring this bill" which is something like 35 Rs and zero Ds, indicating that it's probably a bad move all around lol

Yeah it would be great if the your government actually did things to make your country a better place. But just because that hasn't yet happened doesn't mean its a good idea to keep ceding power to individual billionaires to decide what is fit for you to consume.
Like I said, I have no idea if that particular bill is good. But the Ds are not good people who are looking out for the average person. They just use a slightly lighter, slightly less dirty boot to stomp on the faces of the citizenry forever. What the Ds do or don't do isn't a good measuring stick.
I wouldn't use what they do or do not do as a meaningful heuristic to decide if a policy is good or not, especially when you can just read it yourself.
Anyway it is still the case that the rainbow capitalist corporations only use progressive signalling to make money. One look at their actual internal behaviour, hiring policies, international engagement, etc. proves that even when they were signalling allyship, they only care about the bottom line.
When being anti-progressive is going to reliably make them more money, they'll turn on a dime (literally!). You shouldn't give them the rod for your own back when that time comes. You should always be trying to disempower corporate forces and empower average people.
yes yes, I know companies are Bad, but presently the government is Worse. I will reconsider in 3 years assuming we have an election
Good luck!
