I mean, with that logic you might as well just say "public opinion doesn't matter at all." If people are ever going to rise up and put an end to this dictatorship, yeah it matters

Thanks! Luckily I have zero PhDs about revolutions and civil war and I’ve written no books on the topic, so it’s great to hear from an expert such as yourself

Lmao. So James, are you telling me in your expert opinion that public opinion doesn't matter? Or that news coverage doesn't affect public opinion? Because I can't imagine any other way to interpret your original post here. Feel free to clarify if you'd like to.

If you think the op-Ed’s in conservative media are in any way analagous to public opinion, than your world is a very different place from most people’s. The legacy media has spent much of the last 8 years writing impeach Trump opinion pieces and it hasn’t done shit.

Lmao you don't think how major news publications like the NYT cover this shit has any impact on what people think is going on? Are you serious? I don't even know how to respond to that. People consume news to know what's going on. How things are covered affects what people think. Hot take apparently

Like, I can't even believe what we're talking about here. I'm living in a different reality from most people because I think how news media covers events affects how people are informed? This is batshit insane

The media bubbles that people live in block that out. Also, most people tune out politics until a month or two before US elections. I don't disagree with either of you. Media taking a more aggressive stance would help motivate pushback. But we also saw how 2020 protests led to no real change.

I mean yeah perception of the 2020 protests was of course influenced by how it was covered, since people didn't see it with their eyes. Cable news gave wall to wall coverage the 1 square block in Portland that was on fire, and if you talk to a normie about 2020 they think it was like that everywhere

I feel like James is treating the quoted post as if it said "where are the op eds in fox news specifically." Then I would agree. Like, reducing this whole thing to "conservative media" when it literally just said "major newspapers" feels pretty crazy to me

(and yes I understand that all mainstream news right now, and for a while, whitewashing republican horror and therefore is extremely biased to the "conservative" side but that doesn't mean all their viewers and readers are "conservative," which would be the only way that last reply makes any sense)

If opinion pieces moved public opinion toward them, we’d have no opposition to the genocide in Gaza.

"They haven't convinced literally everyone, therefore they do not convince anyone in general" is your logic here, or lack thereof. That doesn't track *at all.* I don't really understand how an educated person in the year 2025 falls into this completely illogical binary outlook

It's literally the logical equivalent of "if seatbelts made driving safer, we would have zero car accident fatalities"
