When this regime is a part of our dark history it will be necessary to issue new identification numbers to all citizens to be used in lieu of their SSN.

There aren’t enough numbers left over. 999,999,999 possible numbers, and they’ve used about 580,000,000 so far (more than half). You can’t change the format Imagine the data changes on every system that has blocked out a nine digit numeric field for SSN, from insurance to medical & payroll.

That’s true but they’re not going to be able to leave this as is. And the typical response of having one’s credit monitored when there’s been a breach isn’t going to cut it this time around.

That's why you contact the big 3 and freeze your credit. Of course that assumes you aren't currently buying a car or a house.
