I understand the concept of political lobbying, but not the specifics of how it actually works. Is there like, a step-by-step guide to lobbying?

cc @senategabe.bsky.social have at it :')
Step 1: buy a bag of spur cream & onion chips Step 2: eat some of the chips Step 3: put some money in the half eaten bag of chips Step 4: give the bag to a congressperson Step 5: ??? Step 6: your legislation gets passed!
I know a Canadian working at a US company that got to write a clause for one of a US bill. It was to allow their company to get subsidies. It worked. The person was disgusted by this process and quit later on.
Any are a tooth in a cog And don't know True output.
Many... When's edits coming? Lol
Having talked with one, the closest I can equate is they are a espionage agent, gathering leverage or using money to make certain drafts or riders pass
I think you need to have gone to the right school, so that you already know or half-know most of the politicians you want to influence and, chances are, you're well-off. It's the Old Boy Network. There's no "how to" for those outside the charmed circle, and those within it don't need a "how to".
I worked for a lobbyist in college. She basically just went to events non-stop, bought gifts for people, summered in the Hamptons
Also, she didn’t know how to work her email or BlackBerry so she just gave me the passwords, had me print every message out and write all the responses. I remember Hillary’s personal Gmail, emails with Lloyd Blankfein, presents I had to drop off at Jimmy Fallon’s home, it was wild
Yeah it's government relations law classes www.acc.com/sites/defaul...
nice, this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for
tl;dr - there's a non-lobbying portion of intel gathering and research that supports the lobbying portion that companies need in place before they drop a shrinkwrapped bill on a legislator's desk and discuss the different ways they can be partners.
The trick is to get this into the hands of a politician with no one else finding out.
US: have a company donate at least six figures to a candidate/politician, they'll introduce you to their colleagues themselves. Laws are big, so pre-write the legislation if possible UK: it's somewhat illegal, so use offshore accounts
