Don't they have like 11 seats in the upper house?
Don't they have like 11 seats in the upper house?
My post more reflects on the attitude of the headline - a mindset coming from the duopoly An attitude that seeks to narrow representation and a diversity of views -and of course crush climate and environmental concerns
Yes, where arguably they can demand more concessions.
The greens need to be more pragmatic, that's why they lost seats. Progress not perfection is better than nothing. Their stance on housing lost a huge amount of their base. They hold the balance of power in the senate, they can influence a lot if they have the nous.
They didn't lose their vote though. So that's actually not why they lost seats. People are looking at the world and are scared. ALP got us through GFC... they expect them to keep the fascists out and us safe enough economically...
The did lose % but not much. It is mostly the way people chose their preferences. Instead of pairing off with the liberals they paired off with labor. There is definitely a lot of dissatisfaction with them though.
I know there a lot commentary saying that But also its weird they're held to a higher standard than the people in power who did bond with the LNP to push through destructive environmental and changes to electoral stuff... So.... I think people focus on the wrong things
The headline reflects a mindset inside the duopoly and it is a dangerous mindset involving shoring up a Duopoly at the expense of all other political players That is the point of the headline and my post And that point is one Australians should not forget We still have a duopoly in charge
Watch ALP line-up votes with the LNP when it suits them and perhaps not us.
Let’s critique each issue as it comes up. Greens aren’t always the good guys if you want actual action and the ALP have to negotiate someone’s votes. Hopefully a new EPA that includes effect on climate change as a reason for action
It certainly helps to control the House of Reps😀
Problem for Advance and any Atlas affiliated group is that they haven't. The Senate, where the real chance to effect change for minority parties. remains. The lesson that a fall from 12.2% to 11.8% should teach Advance is that they wasted their money.
That is not going to stop them stalking this country and endangering our democracy at all
You have the Greens Senators, then, we rebuild from there, one at a time. Be patient (I know we don't have that long!)
I was also more reflecting on where that headline came from As Labor seeks to shrink all opposition - and voters comply - our diversity of representation and different views is singularly missing in parliament Voters opted essentially for duopoly-lite
I've been patient for decades. it's over
They'll never destroy us. As sad as I am about Adam, Max and Stephen losing their seats, I've always thought the Senate is far more important. Doors close, doors open, much now depends on who the new leader is.
Regardless of any politics, if fossils are not kept in the ground by everyone then this catastrophe we have started living in (check out the beautiful Sydney autumn!) will get worse - quicker! Cost of living is not a crisis, but Boiling Alive is! 🐸🔥
Sick politics. At present there are no laws that can effectively stop Advance & others like them doing what they are doing. The effects of fires, floods & hurricanes have cost thousands of lives, caused billion$ of $ damage, but somehow fossil fuel profits are more important.
This result means not a single issue will be addressed for some time - possibly a decade Voters gave themselves a duopoly-lite They met a low vision "leadership" with low expectations and as issues confronting this country pile up, they'll again think next election to flip-flop back to the LNP IPA
OK. Hopefully someone notices when significant issues are addressed by Gov or is only negative reporting acceptable? The Greens are still a Senate force if they use it wisely. I read the policies on their website & they weren’t very different, comprehensive or constructive so prod the ALP re theirs
I’m becoming seriously suspicious of simplistic sloganeering explanations using words ending in -opoly. Can we have serious analysis of complex issues and thoughtful solutions discussed?
We need to remember Australia is a mine owned by oliagarchs. So drill baby drill and burn baby burn.
We need to confront the risks in allowing governments to reject voters again and follow a corporate agenda Duopoly-lite .. they won, we lost bsky.app/profile/gekk...
They won, we lost. Time to look after the ones we love
Wouldn't it be lovely if the organisations used their millions to help people rather than their divisiveness.
