I'm about to because I don't need my city under siege and Dumbass DudeBros running their "rallies are what COUNT!" bullshit with the same enthusiasm MAGA voters look at how many counties went "red" and think that means the state shoulda been on Trump's side of the ledger.
If rallies and SM counted, Bernie would be President and Corbyn would be prime minister.
I never miss a vote (seriously, in over 50 years of voting, I can count the elections I missed -- state, local, midterms, primaries, national, local participatory budgeting referenda -- on less than one hand). I also never go to rallies. Because they're not designed to actually educate me.
OK, I suck at math, that would be at 40 years of voting. But the point stands. (I am sure I never missed any of my student council election votes either.)
Rallies for candidates, that is. I have gone to many marches and protests. But a rally for a candidate (other than being in Grant Park on election night 2008, which was very cool) seems pointless. If I'm voting for them, I don't need to see them. If they need to sell me, do it with the platform.
But also, I'm undeniably not a fan of big crowds, so that's definitely part of it.
If they were running for "King of the Twitterverse" or "Bluesky" or something, they'd be fine. The real world is not so enamored of them. Reality bites.
