#OnThisDay 1916 Cardiff Railway capstanman Robert Jones was injured at Atlantic Wharf, #Cardiff, #Wales. Turning a GWR wagon on a turntable, when the turntable stopped, the wagon moved, crushing his right hand little finger. #Railway200

Posed staff safety photographs, showing a railwayman using a capstan to move a wagon towards a wagon turntable. The particular danger relates to the position of the rope, which in one image is in danger of being caught in the rope as the capstan, a powered bollard which would haul the rope in, would tighten it around his legs.
