Going by the book, he's supposed to be Cockney. Terence Stamp would've been perfect casting, although it'd cause problems for the sequels.

Pierce is good casting for Tom Ellis's dad, they have a passing resemblance to each other. He's terrible casting for a cockney. Terence would have been beautiful.
