Recently downloaded & watched the original V (1983), & despite lacking contemporary production values, it's quite the predictor of current events. Also The Tudors-- parallels betw Henry & DJT quite telling. Brazil also-- the first time I saw it, I knew it was accurate AF.
I would add that Andor also is an excellent example of how small subversive tactics can add up and help eventually topple an oppressive regime. Is it fantasy? Yes. But fantasy serves to inspire. We teach our children about dragons not to scare them, but to show that they can be slain.
We don't need to watch Disney fiction, just take a look at 1933 Germany and the build up to WW2 in Germany ... you couldn't find a better example.
And both couldn’t be more relevant to what we’re watching unfold right now.

I think that is an interesting point. The First Trump Presidency should have been sufficient warning for what would happen in the Second Trump Presidency. Lessons are rarely learned.

It’s sad that the public needs to be educated through fictional stories…when REAL history is rife with enough tragic examples. But, we are where we are, I guess….
Historians might add storytelling classes to their toolkit. My fave profs were excellent at bringing the history to life.
Yeah, but isn't history just that...stories? To be forced to teach it by referencing TV shows, and movies; just to keep the attention of the students, is a sad commentary on where we are. And Really, explains pretty much why we are... where we are.
I agree to an extent, but isnt all pre-internet history just stories recorded by the victors? Watching victims statements disappear in real time makes me feel there is so much we will never know & it snaps me back to the present.
Isn't ALL history written by the winners? Everything else is treated as just theory or a conspiracy. I just kinda' cringe when I hear people referencing fictional examples to compare to real life situations. Their solutions never seem to play out as well as they do in a make believe world.
There's a reason they're popular. Remember how popular vampires and blood were in the 90s? Remember how concerned everyone was about contracting HIV or AIDS back then? Real events influence our choice of culture.
