10 days ago: newspapers report that Trump's 10 day deadline "hammers" Putin, increases the pressure on him to end the war, and threatens "crippling new sanctions". Trump today: “It’s up to [Putin] and we’ll see what he says.” A completely unsurprising climbdown.

This is exactly what Trump/Putin would do if they were working together and wanted to maintain enough plausible deniability to hoodwink the idiots in European capital and (especially) the American political and media elite, who have apparently never before seen a duck.

For someone so conscious of image, and so concerned with the appearance of strength, Trump is, and has always been, curiously willing to project weakness when it comes to Putin.
I don’t think I’m into conspiracies, but like many, many people I do believe the Russians have something unsavoury on Trump.

It actually somehow looks staged. Trump likely thinks this make him look tough in the eyes of MAGA. What if the deal was already made - Trump then needed some theater for MAGA and a pretend appearance to be on European side. After all the EU paid with tariffs for something - they now didn't get.
