When you understand that life is a one-shot deal, you tend to not be cavalier with the lives of others.

Same, I've been an atheist for 58 years and still live by the "do unto others" rule. It's pretty straightforward, don't punch someone in the face, if you don't want to get punched in the face.🤷🏼♂️
Best T-shirt ever
🤣🤣🤣👍🏾. Very Well Said !!!
Sad, but likely true. Especially Trump supporters.
Incorrect
Muskrat, you do not fool anybody. It is just your PR man working.
This Atheist contributes to food banks, regularly donates to organizations helping the homeless and hires the disabled. Not because any book tells me so, but because it's the right thing to do.
Only atheists deserve to go to "heaven" because they are good for the sake of being good. They don't do good to secure their place in "heaven", they do good for the sake of helping people who are in need.
That's a leap. Athiests sound like saints.
We don't believe in "saints." We believe in helping those who can't help themselves. Not because of any myth or fairy tale or the threat of a fiery hell, but because it's the right and moral thing to do.
Well-said. In this day & age, intelligent homo sapiens don't subscribe to a preposterous theory of an otherworldly, all-powerful entity (false idol) guiding/dictating our thoughts and behaviors.
That does not allow for the reality of humanity.
How did you learn morality? A young child's tendency is not necessarily moral. Research tells us that clearly.
That's a great question. I grew up with two sisters. One is seriously religious, I'm an Atheist, (since 15 yoa) and the youngest is a pathological liar and sociopath (much like T). My parents were moral folks, moderately religious. Could morality be congenital?
What you do not believe in is Catholicism, I think, which is fine.
In college I studied most of the world religions. (Philosophy major) I don't believe in any religion. Period.
That is your right. I took several classes like that as well. I withhold judgement about why good and evil exist, sometimes side by side. Searching for answers is what makes us human, I think.
Because?
Because I also don't believe in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.
When I was a child, I believed I could fly. Science showed me otherwise...the hard way.
Not what I meant. What I was asking is how do you know what the right thing is?
Another great question. I believe it's partly conscience but also guided by one's world view. When you witness the suffering of others, you feel sad. Others might delight in their suffering. What makes a budding serial killer torture animals? It's clearly not taught.
Not perhaps in your family. Others are not so lucky. Victims often become victimizers.
We don’t NEED to think about it, we just do it.. it’s second nature.. don’t need a 2k year old book or a pedophile priest or pastor or preacher to know right from wrong..
I do not believe the "right thing" is second nature at all.
It certainly is for me, my sister is worse than me, she has no money at all but will still give what she has..she even has run after ppl in Walmart parking lots paying stuff they couldn’t afford.. not for the “it makes me feel good” or “ to look good in front of others”but just because..
Yes, I am there myself. It is all about what we value. To me, all money is a loan.
Then you are very foolish indeed. Have you, by any chance, had you mind polluted with religious horse shit? Head over to "The Greater Good Science Center" at Berkeley University. It is all scientifically proven. Doing the right thing is second nature. But you won't because of yoursuperstitions.
Then, if it is second nature, we have a world full of second-nature naysayers. Second nature says there should be fewer disagreements, killings, abuses and wars, not more. As I said, I withhold judgement. Not all of science is right as it constantly evolves.
Ah, but it is such a small step from where your logic is to realise that people going against their human good nature and natural empathy is what causes their pain, conflict and turmoil. Go and follow the happiness training at the Greater Good Science Centre. They don't reject religion.
I am done with the subject now. We agree to disagree.
I am not unhappy, and I do not believe all people are inately good. That is a very simplified solution to humanity. If people are inately good, we t could solve issues by appealing to someone's better nature. I can assure you that is not plausi ble.
You make a lot of assumptions about answers to questions about life and death, which, to be honest, everyone ponders but no one, not even the late, great Carl Sagan, had the answers to for sure.
Reread my replies to you. I made no assumptions nor did I claim to have the answers. I have my beliefs. You have yours. Most important is that you, I and many others continue to critically examine these questions as well as the condition of our existence.
I read them. I sat in many classes with athiests and agnostics.
This is the truth.
It really isn't. Unless you have a mind full of religious lies.
I am pretty sure you are assuming what is lie and what is truth. Looking for answers is very human. We have none for sure, not even from science.
Well, maybe.
If you really are Musk, would you mind staying in your own lane?
Hell, my cats are better Christians than them !!!
To be fair, I am not an atheist. I am one of those panty-waist dilettante agnostic types. I am generally willing to ignore Pascal's wager.
I WANT ONE OF THOSE!
Here! 6society.store/im-a-better-...
THANKS!
Kinda true, but “better Christian” is a really low bar.
Ditto
Not soon enough.
We did that about 40 years ago.
?!
In the middle 80s during the Ronald Reagan era, that’s when the bigots migrated to the Republican Party.
I have to disagree. Bigots were in both parties long before the eighties.
That’s what I’m saying. BEFORE the 80s. Follow the timeline.
I lived the timeline.
So did I. In the 60s, the civil rights act and the voting rights act started the migration of bigots out from among the Democrats.
Do you have any examples?
