Fine. We must not sell ourselves out to get a 25% tariff instead of 35%. It doesn't matter to us, it matters to them. We lose either way. We have to break up this relationship, completely.

Absolutely Now, we need to focus on our own business rather than dealing making with an Extortionist. Do what makes sense for Canada! PM Carney, Ambassador Hillman, Minister LeBlanc, this does not reflect on you. You folks are great. It is a reflection of a mercurial man who has no morals.🇨🇦

We need to charge Americans more for Canadian products. Tax Canadian exports to the US, rather than taxing Canadians for American imports.

They’ll always find a reason why Canada needs to be punished - hated Trudeau, fentanyl, DST, Palestine statehood, reciprocal tariffs, Carney’s not charming enough. We can’t win with Trump & their government has ceded all power & authority to him-all we do going forward should be with that knowledge.

A 25% tariff essentially mean no trade unless absolutely necessary. And retaliatory tariffs is not a good idea unless it is something we can get elsewhere or make more ourselves. Surcharge on goods they need, and can’t make, and has nowhere else to turn to is the best, like electricity, potash.

And make them feel the surcharge, like 50+% This is war. Use our best weapons that make them feel. Punishing your own people with tariffs is not a good weapon at all.

So now is a good day to replace Google with Vivaldi. Netflix for Gem, Crave and other Canadian streaming. MS office is next.

Tariffs are like masturbation. As a master practitioner, Trump can levy his taxes all by himself without consulting or advising others. Which is why he does it. Meanwhile, Americans take a fucking from runaway inflation and money stolen from their buying power.

No, Trump felt humiliated by the Palestine episode. What's he going to do now, when Canada waits him out for a couple of years?

In fortress of protectionism, the price is paid not by distant foes, but by our own sons and daughters in the workshops and markets of America. We must ask ourselves: does this impetuous defense serve the national interest, or does it corrode the very foundations of our commercial liberty?”

We shouldn't kid ourselves. We are heading into a difficult time. People need to be very careful with their finances. Now is not a time for risks. We need to look out for each other.

I don’t disagree with you but in the long run this will make Canada much stronger. There will be a day when when trade normalizes with the U.S. also. Even now, something like 90% of trade still falls under the free trade agreement. It will be good to diversify our trade relations though.

They have been our enemy for the majority of our shared history. We are coming to the end of a period of cooperation. They have imperialism and expansionism as part of their creed of 'merican exceptionalism.

Don't buy from them, don't sell to them. Start a coalition of the willing to isolate them from the world economy, including not buying their treasury bonds (their debt will be part of their undoing) and strategically selling $US reserves. Over the top we go!

Trump's latest tarrif is being challenged in court. To benefit from a positive court result, we can't rush into a deal.

Yes, or enact an export tax equal to the highest US tariff on any Canadian product. Aluminum is at 50%. That should get their attention in a heat wave if operating AC becomes drastically more expensive.

Fac Americae Abire @lacompa.bsky.social

I would double their rates, but as export tax or surcharge. Make their can of beer much more expensive by taxing aluminum and aluminum products at 150%. US can’t make more aluminum.

Can’t wait till the US courts conclude that the president cannot unilaterally impose tariffs as they are a congressional responsibility under the constitution.

Try to make sense of gop mush brains logic. So republicans don’t like to pay taxes & feel we overpay in taxes,But yet they love tariffs.Tariffs are a tax that The American consumer will pay. It’s either they don’t know what a tariff is or that they like to pay certain taxes. My guess they don’t know

Remember Trump’s tariffs are illegal and violates the Constitution: Article 1 section 8 only gives congress the power to enact tariffs…Not the president.

If Congress won’t stop these coercive and illegal tariffs (we have a legal contract in place which he continues to disregard -CUSMA) then we need to completely sever economic ties…or, is it time to call their debt back? Wish Japan would have played that CARD.
