Dear news media: You have made school shootings into entertainment. Interviewing a 10yo CHILD in the immediate aftermath of terror is disgusting and egregious and malpractice. You need to STOP. Stop interviewing victims still in crisis. Stop speculating for clicks. Have some fucking integrity.

Unfortunately, I can't say I agree here. Politicians and schools tend to try silencing families when these happen. To sweep it away quickly. I know it's a lot, but people might empathise with a child's word over their parents' on TV. It might be the only way to get people to finally do something.
Imagine witnessing something horrifically and grotesquely horrifying and then having a camera and microphone shoved in your face before you’ve been able to even grieve or feel your own pain. Just imagine for like 10 seconds.
i mean, i have done that after losing family to a boating accidents where my teenage cousin fell into a boat motor. i just know that's part of what it took for regulations near my hometown to get made--it was words from his classmates. totally different situation, but kids' words mattered.

Me too. I just wish people would give a damn about kids’ safety again. It feels like the government only cared for kids for a few years finally only to turn their back on em the moment Trump was first put in office. 🫠 I can only hope something gets better.

albeit this was 20 years ago, but people had been trying for years and it only finally happened when kids finally got the mic and people had to tell them directly if anything was gonna be done. people are more willing to listen to a kid's cry before an adult's. im not saying its great.
Except kids aren’t listened to. Ever. That’s why this is a near constant thing. Kids aren’t always criminally disregarded.
You told me to put myself in their shoes for a situation I told you I had been through. Then you respond telling me kids are never listened to when I have an example of when they were listened to. Do you actually care or are you just angry? :/ It’s fine if you’re just angry Im just confused.
Did you… did you not read my response giving a time they were listened to? Idk, im just trying to see any but of progress I can look for. And I was a part of a time kids were listened to, as I suggested, hence why I feel different about this.
At what cost? At what cost to the child? We've been doing this for over 25 years and it hasn't made one bit of difference. Sensationalizing trauma isn't helping anyone. Let these people get home, be with their families, get some therapy.
