I wrote a whole long essay explaining the policy tradeoffs around prop 33 but you seem unwilling or incapable of engaging with public policy on a deeper level than “more rent control is always and everywhere good for poor people and it can never have any negative side effects.”

The likely outcome of Prop 33 is SF, Berkeley, and Santa Monica passing vacancy control with below-inflation rent increases while every wealthy suburb in the state passed rent regulations designed to block the construction of all new rental housing. This would be very bad for like 90% of CA tenants.

It also would’ve created incredibly strong political pressure to allow by-right condo conversions of existing apartment buildings statewide.
