after the recent shooting at a catholic church, vance was blaming it on trans people, the pope put out an official statement calling for firearms bans and then invited an lgbt outreach minister to the vatican. the legislation wouldve been a national hrt ban like rfk proposed.

the issue is if they relate that to the shooting, the vatican would probably issue a followup statement to defend its first statement about banning guns, bc that'd be ignoring the first statement and playing chicken to see how much the pope holds by his words. which i dont think vance/rfk will do.
