Research makes it worse. You know it means someone who's self-righteous and pompous, but it's based on a nursery tale, someone who was excited about *getting a second shoe*. LIke...was she supposed to be happy with the one shoe!? And she's pompous for being happy about *having two shoes*!?
I'm more confused after reading about it than I was before. It's like formalized bullying of someone who had less and was happy to finally have the bare minimum. Yeah, let's smack her down.
