I would argue that a lot of them do know how to think independently but have relinquished that skill because they trust Trump and, more importantly, distrust anyone they perceive to be disloyal to Trump. They are oblivious to the fact that their trust was “earned” through manipulation.

That, in my view, is not thinking independently. Relinquishing your ability to think and believing what someone tells you to think, without checking the truth, is not thinking for yourself. A sad lot!
