I would like to see Dolly Parton get the award regardless of which President awards it. She has earned the award many times over. She has always been careful to stay out of party politics as is her right.

Yes, however she turned it down twice from Trump. Whether just staying out of politics or for other reasons, I do not know. She has certainly earned it, I agree.

Frankly I think she is worthy of a statue in US Capitol (each state can send 2 statues) given breadth of her contributions to music, philanthropy, literacy and economy of East Tennessee. After she dies I suggest that Tenn replace their statue of Andrew Jackson with Dolly Parton. I’m totally serious.

I didn’t realise she had turned it down. I wouldn’t mind if she took it from Trump, least of all because she has been scrupulous to stay out of partisan politics even while speaking out in favour of causes such as LGBT rights and performing massive acts of charity.
