To be fair, I don’t know the relationship between all governors and police, but based on the one between the NYC mayor and the NYPD, this is not one where the mayor seems to have true control.

the question of how civilian leaders keep their armed subordinates loyal has shaped all of recorded history the usual answer is "you must obey because the Pharaoh/Emperor/Shahanshah/Great Khan speaks for the gods" have any Democratic leaders beside Pritzker tried that?

I was ready to fight yesterday. But it’s peaceful protesting that gets us change, not violence. I know this…but some days? Not feeling it.

Change will be peaceful if the fascists allow it (paraphrasing one of the many Heritage Foundation asshats). I'm 100% behind peaceful protest, general strikes and boycotts. Seems like we made some progress with Target, at least. More to do.
