As I mentioned earlier in a comment, they answered my complaint saying, “We have last week received a shelf-life extension moving the expiration to December 25.” The .doc attached as proof didn’t look very professional, it seemed like they had just thrown it together on the spot. 1/2

I replied saying it didn’t look like a document from the manufacturer. Their answer: “The manufacturer as a company do not do extensions, so we were forced to do one internally using our own quality team.” They’re only offering a 25% refund. Are they joking? This is a major company in the field. 2/2

Ask how the document would look any different if they were just making it up. (How important they are in your supply chain will govern how to respond.) Linkedin is horrible, but you can find out who their SHEQ chief is. If they are ISO9001 certified, ask to see their procedure for reevaluating BBEs.

Can you go elsewhere in future?

It will be complicated as many big suppliers are not interested to sell to small businesses like me. But I will have to because this is unacceptable.

Nope-ity, nope-ity, nope. Expiration dates for chocolate are more for quality than safety, as you know, but certainly a small batch producer cares about quality more than some of the larger chocolate candy makers. Sounds like they're just dumping what they have left in inventory.

Easy solution for the future is to start putting expiration date info on your purchases so you don't have a company do this to you again. As for now, it doesn't sound like you have a lot of leverage based on limited facts posted

Stick to your guns. Say you can't use any of it and ask for full refund? Can you write a negative review so you get a little bit of revenge? I turn in to a real bitch when businesses do things like this. Makes me feel better and sometimes gets results.

I don't know how things work in the UK, but here in the USA if a person pays with a credit card, the credit card company can refund the money if one explains that the order was not fulfilled correctly, etc.
