I just don’t want to get my hopes up because it didn’t work as expected last time. But I’m in a different mental state than I was a year ago, so fingers crossed.

Right. Not all medications work. And some sound scary. A friend who had been bipolar for years but wasn't properly diagnosed started on lithium, and far from dulling her senses, it brought back the person I'd known. Unfortunately she wouldn't stick to it and I saw her crash again.
It is sad when things start to get better and they stop. Was it because of side effects or no specific reason?
Just her inability to stick at things, which may be part of her condition. She felt fine!
It works brilliantly for my daughter. The difference is night and day.
