I never hear anyone talking about why Americans buy so many illegal drugs. The cartels and smugglers are a byproduct of the real problem, American drug users.

100% right. I have been asking this as well. We know some became addicted when Oxy was marketed inappropriately, but what about all the rest? They create the demand.

Correct. As long as there is a profitable market, illegal drug are going to be smuggled-in, whichever way, or domestically produced. Trump et al. are targeting the symptoms, not the cause of the disease. On purpose of course because it’s better propaganda.

So the logical answer is to decriminalize everything and regulate substances for purity, strength and dose. Use the money saved from prohibition costs on treatment and education. And let adults decide what to do with their bodies. Freedom.
