interesting. thanks for digging it out. we seem to be witnessing that play out now. Northern Ireland, an economic basket case, I can understand but I am genuinely surprised by the lack of regard for the Falklands, in particular.

A Reform UK government might be the thing that finally tips NI in favour of leaving the Union. And here was me thinking, not 12 months ago, that Labour in power would assuage the desire for niexit.

Perhaps but I think NI is already gone Björn. Starmers' "not in my lifetime" promise about a re-join of SM, CU or EU sets labour as a pro brexit party too and that's the pivot for NI. The HoC vote for the WF (not needed if UK re-joins SM), against the wishes of NI unionists, was 515 to 29.

the prospect of a Reform government would tip Scotland over to independence, for sure, I think, but, NI is already gone.

I think an increasingly likely long-term scenario is that each part of the UK eventually joins the EU as an independent state. But disentangling the UK union will not be straightforward.

Perhaps but NI leaving UK will be soon, bringing an abrupt end to the UK union. Labours failure to secure a SPS deal in May might help Scottish independence. It leaves GB little choice but to re-join the SM/CU, making independence easier i.e. no goods border Scotland & england.

for those interested...here's a quick thread on why the failure to get a SPS deal is disastrous for GB consumers & business. EU Insiders reckon it will take 7-10 years to negotiate & implement.
